After Scar leaves, Zazu questions Mufasa over why he did not run Scar out of the Pride Lands years ago, to which Mufasa replies that Scar is his brother and as long as he is King, Scar has a right to live in the Pride Lands. Mufasa asks Zazu where Sarabi is, to which Zazu replies that she is leading an attack. When Simba points out a shadowy place, Mufasa says that the shadowy place is beyond their borders and tells Simba not to go there. Some time later, Scar alerts Mufasa to the fact that Simba is trapped amidst a wildebeest stampede in the Years later, the spirit of Mufasa appears to a now-grown Simba, urging him to take his rightful place as king of the Pride Lands. His short, sleek coat is gold, his lips are black, and his eyes are yellow. Then all of a sudden, Mufasa takes Simba around the Pride Lands and teaches him about the Circle of Life before Zazu shows up to give Mufasa the morning report. Mufasa is an adult male lion.

He manages to leap out of the stampede and starts to scale one of the walls of the gorge. He is the brother of Scar and the mate of Sarabi, with whom he has a son, Simba. Mufasa is the king of the Pride Lands.

Afterwards, Scar says "Long live the king" before striking Mufasa in the face, sending him back into the stampede. He brings Simba back to the Pride Lands and chastises him for disobeying. He commands his son to return to the Pride Lands and seize his birthright. However before Simba can do anything, a wildebeest crashes into the tree, causing it to split into pieces. Scar is unsatisfied that he is not next in line to being king any longer, but he assures Mufasa that he would not dream of challenging him again. However instead, Scar grabs Mufasa's paws and digs his claws into them, causing Mufasa to roar in pain. He then teaches Simba about the Mufasa's spirit appears to Simba, urging him to take his rightful place as king of the Pride LandsSimba mourns his father’s death and flees the Pride Lands in shame. Suddenly, he warns the hyenas' leader Shenzi that if she ever comes near Simba again. He takes him to the top of Pride Rock and tells him that everything the light touches is their kingdom and says that a true king searches for what he can give rather than take. Mufusa is a huge and muscular male lion with a powerful build, a large muzzle with a white chin, and an exceptionally thick mane that is dark brown at the back and light brown at the front. After Simba's presentation, Mufasa confronts his brother, Scar, who was absent from the ceremony. The next day, Mufasa is at Pride Rock with Zazu when Scar shows up to say that there is a stampede in the gorge and Simba is down there. As the time passes, Simba grows into a healthy young cub. He encounters Scar over missing Simba's presentation, to which Scar claims that he forgot afterwards.

After Simba returns to Pride Rock, Mufasa's spirit speaks a final "Remember" over Mufasa chastises his brother, Scar, for being absent at Simba's presentationAfter the ceremony, Mufasa arrives with his steward, Months pass, with Simba growing into a lively cub.

Years later, Mufasa appears as a ghost to Simba, who is living in exile. And he is also known as a trusting, sweet, aspiring, dignified, protective, powerful, fatherly, understanding, respectful, righteous, playful, loving, humble, optimistic, bold, patient, ill-tempered at times, instructive, meticulous, level-headed, inspirational, commanding, regal and selfless lion.
