Tirry told the rebels to carry one stack of corn to Ballincollig to maintain the Barrett’s family, a second stack to be carried to Richford’s Town where the rebels kept a garrison, and the third stack to be carried to Lee (Leigh) where there was a great camp of rebels. Oliverus Burke, son of Edmond Burke, came to him the next day and told him that Captain Barrett and most of his men had gone to Moyne for a meeting with his countrymen. In this dispute,the Barrett family had a steward that went to collect Taxes from the Lynott family. The next day, Edmond Burke came with his company of men to remind them what he had said in his letter, and to save his son that was now help captive in the steeple. Maddyn stated that he knew this information firsthand because he served under Richard Barrett in the rebel army. (Testimony given 10/19/1642)12/16/1641 – Oliver Bowen, of the Castle Carah in the County of Mayo, stated that on December 16, 1641, he was forcibly removed from his lands and castle by the rebel army which included Richard Burke, David Burke, and many other of his neighbors (believed to have included Barretts). (Testimony given 05/18/1642)02/10/1642 – Thomas Woolcocke, an English Protestant of Muskerry in the County of Cork stated that on about February 10, 1642 his goods and lands were taken from him from local Rebels. The rebels apprehended Roger Skinner and brought him before William Tirry, David Kenlan, Robert Barrett, Richard Barrett and others in the Barony of Barretts not yet known.
(Testimony given 11/26/1952)12/13/1652 – Richard Gardener of Portumna stated that earlier in the rebellion, he was besieged in the steeple of Roserke by Captain Robert Barrett and others for three quarters of a year. Gardener stated that he then saw a servant of Burke’s walking in a yard, and not knowing how to deliver a letter to him, threw the letter in front of him and saw him pick it up to leave with. The Barretts seem to have participated in the Eleven Year War, and most of the testimony given against them has come from protestants. John Barrett of Traly(Tralee) was one of the men inside that assisted the rebel army. They are still known as “The WELSHMEN of Tirawley”, English Barons and Nobles during a time where the ancient leaders of Ireland were driven out. The rebels listed with Edmond Barrett were:1641 – Edmond Maddyn of Cork, stated that Richard Barrett was involved with the rebel army in the year of 1641. She stated that Edmond Barrett and his rebels carried weapons with, for and amongst the Rebels to be used against the King and his loyal subjects. (Testimony given 04/27/1642)February (approx) 1642 – Jenkin Davys, an English Protestant of the Barony of Blarney in the County of Cork, stated that earlier in the same year he was robbed of his goods, cattle and lands by the rebel army. (Testimony given 05/30/1654)05/11/1641 – Andrew Barrett is dispossessed of Ballincollig Castle by rebel forces.01/08/1642 – Adam Newman, of Blarney in Glarrycone in the county of Cork, stated that he had his lands and goods taken from him by the rebel army on about January 8, 1642. THE WELSHMEN OF TIRAWLEY. The Barretts were also heard from in the famous dispute in the “Welshmen of Tirawley”. Tirry told the rebels to carry away three large stacks of corn that belonged to a local Protestant farmer named Robert Burden, who also lived and farmed in Sarsfields Grange.
